An Autumn Wedding at The Yarrow Hotel Broadstairs

The Yarrow Hotel in Broadstairs was the scene of a recent wedding we attended for Jan and Mark.    The Hotel has been lavishly decorated and offers a high class of service. It is a welcome addition to the area and will certainly be in high demand as a premier location as word spreads.

Mark and his son who performed the role of Best Man were nice and early. With the ushers on hand too we were able to spend some time in and around the hotel to set the scene.

We then popped up to see Jan who was staying at the hotel.  The room was beautifully lit with diffused daylight from the large windows that gave us the opportunity to spend some time with Jan to create several different images of her and her bridesmaids.

On the way to the service, which was held within the Alfred Yarrow Room, we stopped for a simple but elegant portrait on the stairs.

During the ceremony, I normally take up a position to the side of the officiator while Michelle will cover the ceremony from the back of the hall.   Later, the cameras data then allows us to automatically sort the images by the time they were taken.  This allows us to tell the story of your special day from more than one viewpoint.

We were very fortunate to have more time than usual before the wedding breakfast, which meant we could use the hotel to it’s full. We began with the larger group shots indoors. We always try to have some fun with these, but we do make sure we cover those formal groups too.

Then the bridal party kindly gave us time to go walkabout.  We began outside the hotel, then the lobby, back to the stairs and finally the bar and restaurant which had a super comfy chair and a deep blue wall which just cried out to be used as a backdrop.

So there you have it. A fantastic location and a fantastic couple. Thank you so much Jan and Mark for putting your trust in us to cover this very special day of yours.

Teenage Photo Shoot At Home

School life for teenagers is stressful; the demands placed upon them for good exam results takes their toll.  So, where possible it's good to do something special for them from time to time.

A few weeks back I offered Victoria the opportunity to have some friends over for a photo-shoot. This is normally a service we offer on location either in a park or at clients home. We also cover commercial jobs in larger premises, most of the time we cannot show these images for various reasons, and whilst I did not arrange this shoot for personal gain, the parents of Victoria’s friends very kindly agreed that I could share some of  the images with you so you can see what we get up to.

We initially set up a Colourama Larkspur paper background. On the floor we placed a clear acrylic sheet that acts as a mirror to give a bit more shape to the image.

We then made sure we had a good range of group shots and individuals portraits too. It's important to 'mix it up' and have a variety of shots to keep the Mums and Dads happy.

Afterwards with Halloween almost upon us we threw up a green screen background to give them something to put up on their social media pages nearer the time.

To give you some idea of how we work in small locations we have a couple of shots that Michelle took on her phone.

Then a bit of retail therapy folowed by visit to KFC - I must stress that we do not normally offer the last two services with photo shoots to clients. :)

Sarah & Darrens Wedding Day - Bay Point, Sandwich

The Bay Point Sports Club at Sandwich is a great place to hold your wedding ceremony; it boasts a lovely pergola for those summery days, a wide expanse of grass for those all important photographs, and plenty of room indoors for your wedding breakfast.

Bay Point Sports Club Sandwich

We arrived early to capture a few images of the venue and all the little bits and pieces that help to tell a story when it comes to creating a printed album.  Couples often find the day passes so quickly that they miss the little touches that have been added by family and friends, the things that make a wedding unique, like the table decorations, so it’s nice to get a visual record wherever possible.

Darren and his groomsmen also arrived nice and early, which always makes our job easier as we can spend a little more time with the boys before the ceremony.  A final read through of the speeches and we were good to go.

Sarah arrived shortly afterwards, the willow tree within the grounds made a lovely background that was just crying out to be used, and as it was nicely hidden away around the corner from the ceremony we did not spoil the bridal parties arrival.

In the past we have come across many ways for the rings to arrive for the ceremony.  Sarah and Darren had opted for a security guard, resplendent in his uniform and super-cool shades...Pretty sure the rings are very safe today.

By now the guests had arrived and taken their places. Entertainment was being provided by one of the younger bridesmaids, and yours truly.

Time for Sarah to make her entrance.

An exchange of rings, a kiss, and the signing of the register completed the official part of the day.

All that is left is to wish Sarah and Darren all the very best for the future.

Lalla & Dan's Ramsgate Wedding

We have just handed over the final images to Lalla and Dan who were married last month at St. Laurence in Thanet Church. We arrived nice and early to cover the preparations, and also to meet up with Dan, his best man and groomsmen before they arrived at the church, which is where we pick up the story.

Dan and his Best Man Matthew were waiting to receive their guests at the church.

We took the opportunity to borrow the rings while it was still quiet. As we already knew that the wedding had a superhero theme we had bought along a couple of figures to help us to do something a little different.

Time for Dan to disappear into the church as the bridesmaids arrive, followed
by Lalla and her father.

St. Laurence is the oldest church in Ramsgate and has a limited amount of space outside, with such a large number of guests we chose to cover just the smaller groups and wait until we arrived at the reception for the ‘everybody’ picture.

Planning is the key; as we had already prepared for the superhero themed wedding day, we made the most of it.  Everyone’s a superhero ready to fight for truth and justice.

We had a feeling Lalla was already aware that her new husband was a superhero.

His super powers were no match for his new bride though….

The reception was held at the Pegwell Bay Hotel and we were just able to squeeze everyone onto the decking for the last big group.

The really nice weddings are the ones where that little extra thought has been put into the arrangements. With a lot of guests with children being part of their special day, Lalla and Dan had supplied a bouncy castle – it was a hit with kids of all ages.

We wish Lalla and Dan every happiness for the future and leave you with one last memory we created before leaving them to the evening festivities.
